Visit Peak District

Just a quick post to say: I got an email yesterday from the Online Relations and Marketing Exec at VisitPeakDistrict.com saying they’d stumbled across my vimeo and liked my stuff (!), so had posted a couple of videos to their facebook page:

Photo taken on my phone of a recent trip to Derwent edge

Plus they also asked me to let them know when I update my portfolio – if there’s space on their website, they might add a video. Just as well I’m working on a peak district video at the mo (come on weather, improve so I can finish it!!!)
…Always a good way to improve a bad day…!

Website Downtime

Unfortunately the server that hosts my website is being changed, so my website will be transferred sometime in the next few weeks. I’ve no idea when they’re doing it, and it may be down for a few days! Hopefully the change will go unnoticed though…!

Wildlife on Film

The BWPA highly commended videos are now online (proof I wasn’t making it up!) There’s some really beautiful shots in there; so chuffed I got picked.

Highly Commended Videos

BWPA Highly Commended Dolphin Sequence

So the results are out for the British Wildlife Photography Awards (BWPA) 2011!  This year, they started a new ‘Wildlife on Video‘  category  which I decided to enter.

The judges will be looking for the most inspirational and dynamic sequence (up to a minute) which clearly illustrates the unique power of video as a medium for capturing British wildlife. Any aspect of British wildlife will be considered.

You can watch my entry here (dolphins of course):

I was really pleased to find out I’d been awarded a Highly Commended! The winners of the various categories can be found on the BWPA website – not all of the highly commended entries are online yet, so mine is yet to appear (not making it up I promise!).

BWPA award ceremony filming

So (thanks entirely to the wonderful Emma) I will be filming the BWPA award ceremony next month at the WildlifeXpo. I am so excited. Plus the video that achieved a highly commended will hopefully be on display too!

Look out in the papers tomorrow for the announcement of all the winners (plus at BWPA online), and there may even be a piece on Sky TV!

A recent photo to liven up the post:

Devil's Bridge Waterfall

The weather wasn’t fab in the peak district today – but i still got a few shots of grouse (when mountain bikes weren’t trying to run me over) and of a spider making its web. I’m adding to my peak district collection, and will be cutting a short together soon (after a few more trips – please behave weather!)

A wildlife showreel and other news

So I put together a quick edit of some wildlife shots I’ve compiled – nothing fancy, just some pretty pictures 🙂

I’ve made good progress with the British Equestrian Federation Roadshow edit – waiting on the client now with titles and names so I can export the final copies.

As for my highly commended video for the BWPA awards, I shall post it once all the winners etc have been announced on the BWPA website. It’s also going to be displayed at the WildlifeXpo on 14th and 15th October … and I may have more exciting news regarding the WildlifeXpo soon – but not going to get my hopes up until it’s sorted!

I’m hoping the weather’s going to be reasonable in the peak district today since I’m off out there with my camera; it’s been too long since I ventured into the peaks!

Competitions & more BEF filming

Just a quick update – I’m trying out the iPhone app which seems to be good for short posts but not those where I want to post media!

But anyway, some awesome news – I just got told the video I submitted to the British Wildlife Photography awards (BWPA website) has been Highly Commended! I’ll post it on my vimeo site soon 🙂

In other news, I’ve done some more work for the British Equestrian Federation Futurity – they’ve got a roadshow and asked me to film the first one; currently making my way through 2-3 hours of footage!

Wedding videography and other news

Recently I’ve filmed two weddings in the local area for Damselfly weddings. I was the second cameraperson, and responsible for getting another angle for the important parts such as ceremony and speeches, as well as recording other parts of the day. Obviously, since the day is a private function, the full videos are not available online but a highlights vid of the first can be found online here:

Click here or the image above to see it. I’ll post the video to the second one when it becomes available!

Sea Watch also has the alternative edit of my dissertation – focussed much more around them and the work they do. It can be see here:

In other news – I entered a photo competition at work, and it was one of the winners 🙂 it will be printed and framed, and displayed in the foyer at work. Something small, but exciting nonetheless. It’s this photo:

British Equestrian Federation Video

And again, I’ve left it ages between updates!  The number photos I have to process and upload are beyond thinking about now – and I’ve definitely got to update my website’s video page!  But all in good time.

For now, I shall post the video I made for the British Equestrian Federation Futurity.  It’s a short video for owners who wish to enter and show their young horse at this year’s (and future) Futurity events; a foal is judged on a number of criteria and vet-assessed to establish and potential for showing.  I was required to make an informative video for this purpose … and it was brilliant fun!  It’s not the usual thing I do, since I normally film wildlife in their natural habitat, paying no notice of me.  So it was quite a strange experience to have to film very particular behaviours – and that I could request the owner to direct the horses!

The BEF girls were great to work with, as were the horses.  Plus the weather was great too 🙂

I shall try and post a few more things shortly – there’s been lots going on 🙂

Calke Abbey Video

I recently compiled a short video set at Calke Abbey.  It contains shots I took last year when I assisted/volunteered with the BWPA exhibition set up, as well as more recent footage.

The video can be found here or by clicking the link above.  Calke Abbey is such a lovely place; on both visits I was lucky enough to see a little owl (or two!) and there’s so much other wildlife too.
